The video installation Fun With Flags explores the aesthetics, narratives, and symbolic dimensions woven into the complex phenomenon of flags. It examines both the history of their use and their current presence in societal debates and everyday culture. Through the collaging of found footage sequences extracted from publicly available archives such as museological databases and social media, presented on a white flag tied to a metal pole, Fun With Flags investigates the conflicting ideas inherent in every flag: unity and demarcation, affiliation and exclusion. The continuous stream of found footage reflects contemporary media usage as well as the emotional spectrum that flags evoke, encompassing the associations and relationships people attach to them.

Die Video Installation Fun With Flags untersucht das komplexe Phänomen der Flaggen, ihre Ästhetik, Narrative und Symbolik. Die Arbeit thematisiert dabei die Geschichte ihrer Nutzung sowie ihre aktuelle Rolle in gesellschaftlichen Debatten und Alltagskultur. Collagiertes Found Footage Material, das aus öffentlichen Archiven wie musealen Datenbanken und den sozialen Medien stammt, wird auf eine weiße Flagge projiziert und untersucht die widersprüchlichen Ideen, die jeder Flagge innewohnen: Einheit und Abgrenzung, Zugehörigkeit und Ausschluss. Der kontinuierliche Stream von Found Footage reflektiert zeitgenössische Mediennutzung, genauso wie die emotionale Bandbreite, Assoziationen und Beziehungen, die Menschen mit Flaggen verbinden.
